Hey guys, I need some help!!!
I'm having some serious stutter/lag issues with my new pc rig I built. I didn't have any problems on my old GPU, an R7, but when I upgraded to an R9, despite the gorgeous upgrade to the graphical quality, I'm having some serious stutter. I've had it now for almost two months, and I've been up and down all the forums out there. I've tried just about everything, from switching the GPU from one pci slot to another, updating all my drivers including audio drivers (realtek), running antivirus scans, removing any hardware/software that might be interfering(I was using a ps3 sixaxis controller for a bit with MotionJoy but I recently found that MotionJoy is a crap program supposedly and uninstalled it). I've cleaned my pc, taken out all unused programs,(probably uninstalled some that I will still need in my haste to fix this), and taken out all software to monitor my fps, like fraps etc. I still have asus gpu tweak however, but I was having these issues before I downloaded the program so I can dismiss that as the culprit.
I also have checked the heat issue on the card using all sorts of software. I currently use HWMoniter to check all the temps, which never exceed 70C on the CPU and roughly 70-75C on the graphics card. I check temps in game by alt/tabbing out and looking while gaming under stress, and I've also ran stress tests using prime95. I don't have any water cooling, but I do have awesome ventilation and a good aftermarket cpu fan. I'm pretty confident that the temps aren't messing my game up.
I play all sorts of 'AAA' games on Steam, Origin, etc... like X-Com: Enemy Unknown, Battlefield 4, Dying Light, Diablo 3, but I also play simpler and less demanding games like Quake Live, Civilization V, and Warcraft 3, and I get the same results no matter what game I am in, or what the video setting are set on: Low, Med, Super-mega-ultra, don't matter. Adjusting the video settings only makes the stutter more apparent.
All my specs are as follows:
processor: AMD Phenom 1090T, X6 @ 3.2ghz stock, can OC to 3.6 in CCC, but I don't.
mobo: Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P -- which I know is old but was told is reliable. Also, I don't really have the spare cash to upgrade hardware right now.
PSU: Corsair CX600 -- I thought that this might have something to do with the lag, but I ran a watt usage test and it came up to about 513w is what I am pushing, supposedly. I could probably get my hands on a 700w psu but I dunno...
GPU: ASUS Radeon R9 290 4gb DDR5
OS: Windows 7 Pro 64bit
Ram: 16gb
I've been trying to fix this stutter for a few months now and I've tried everything I know, I've gone down every avenue, and I've asked all sorts of techies I know personally and even had them ask other people, to no avail. If any questions or suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it! Please help!
