Hi guys,

I just recently made a thread about minor artifacting on startup every now and then.
Today I have been doin some gaming, and Ive run into an issue where while im playing occasionally, I go from 220 fps to 10-20. The game is 7 years old, and it has nothing to do with that, seems to me. The issue is also not heat as far as i know, the card was only in the 60s..

Im thinking the card(an r9 290) is dying, which is worrisome

If anyone has any idea as to why this is happening, I would appreciate it.
Thanks

Hard to say.... when the R series came out and were so aggressively OC'd, they were hitting 95C and AMD and many folks went "yowza". But AMD stated that they were fine with that ... while many peeps wondered just what long term effect that might have. If this is going to happen, it would be about now that we could expect to be seeing signs of it. Similarly nvida says their 9xx series cards can go to 97C and yet the cards start throttling at 80C.

However, temps came down w/ better coolers and if you're only seeing mid 60s, there should not be anything to worry about heat wise.

I always start my troubleshooting with Furmark. If it can do Furmark without wide variations, in temps, load, fps, then it's not the card

So i got furmark, messed with it...
Card was at full load the whole time.

At 1080p and 4x MSAA:
-35 fps average/Min
-37 Max

After four minutes, the card was up to 80C. That was all i was comfortable with letting it get up to. If its not the card, what would it be?

AMD claims they are quite happy with 95C.... the purpose of Fur,ark is to check stability.... does load remain the same % of TDP or is card throttling ?.... does PSU voltage vary by more than 2-3 % (ATX spec is 5%). ?

The game is old and may not be properly supported. Tried Vsync ?
