I currently have a ROG Crosshair VI Hero that has a USB 3.1 front panel connector (USB3.1_E1). I was looking to buy a new case that has a USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C on the front panel, with a USB 3.1 Gen 2 front panel connector (USB31G2_E1) for that front panel port. Can I plug the USB 3.1 Gen 2 front panel connector (USB31G2_E1) into the USB 3.1 front panel connector (USB3.1_E1) on my motherboard? Or should I buy a new motherboard with this case?

Should work fine.

You know, it's free to buy the case you want and try it with the current (pricey) mobo to see if things work before you go and buy a new mobo. If it doesn't work (probably will), THEN ask for help before buying a new mobo.
