Hello guys

I am thinking about buying a ASRock H97M-ITX/ac motherboard along with the Fractal Design Define Nano S (ITX case). I notice the motherboard only got one fanheader, while the case has a two fans (one front, one rear).

I guess I'm going to need a Y-fansplitter like this http://www.coolerkit.dk/images/18EK002-p.jpg

Can any confirm if the case/motherboard comes with a Y-fansplitter like that or am I going to buy one myself?

Thanks

Solution

You can, but both will run at the same speed.
FWIW, that is not a biggie to me.
I prefer a constant fan speed anyway. Constantly changing I find a bit annoying.

You attach a fan to the motherboard in order to have motherboard fan speed control.
Using a splitter will not work properly unless one of the fan leads(or the splitter) disables one of the speed sensing wires.
Then, both fans will be controlled in the same way.
Or... you can simply attach the case fan to the psu directly via a molex connector.
It will operate at full speed.

As long as I can force both fans not to running at 100% RPM, I am happy.

I will use the following splitter then.

Thanks
