I am running an i7 8700k at 4.8mhz on a AS Rock Z370 Pro 4, 24gb of DDR4 CL15 3000mhz, 1080ti and a 960gb SSD. However, in games I see huge frame times, above 10ms, without full GPU or CPU usage and low temps (<75C). This then causes stuttering and frame drops.
This is mainly in VR games, Skyrim VR and GTA VR specifically. I would understand if my GPU was causing the issues, but that doesn't pass 80% usage, it is the CPU that seesms to be stopping me getting max performance. I am running the games at 90FPS on a Valve Index. If I increase the super sampling it makes no difference and it is still the frame times causing the issue.
I have tried putting the CPU back into stock mode and that makes no difference. I updated the BIOS to a newer (not the latest) version. I have run AIDA64 and Intel Stress Test to see if I am throttling, which I am not.
What else can I try or is there some settings that I am missing. Surely the i7 8700k can't be my bottleneck.
