Sometimes in games my framerate will randomly lock itself to a certain number, and can only be fixed by alt tabbing - it eventually happens again.

I've seen it lock to 118, 112, 90, If it locks as low as 90 and I tab back in, it goes back up to the next highest locked number, then I have to alt tab again, to the next highest locked number, until I'm back at 120.

Could it be my monitor, and would my monitor even cause something like this? I am playing with v-sync on and 120 hz refresh rate.

I also noticed that if I turn v-sync off with unlimited fps I don't have the issue. V-sync seems to be the culprit here, I've been using this for a few years now and it just cropped out of nowhere.

In your 4 sentences you didn't provide much info with what you're working with apart from your panel having V-Sync.

Please list the specs to your build like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time.

Include the titles you're taxing the system with as well.

Assuming you're on a Windows OS environment, if you have BIOS updates pending,. update to the latest version. Then follow through with updating the OS. Then lastly, use DDU to remove all GPU drivers, then manually reinstall with the latest GPU driver sourced from your GPU maker's support site, in an elevated command.
