Fraps drops 30 FPS when I record

system specs.

AMD Six-Core FX-6120 Processor
10GB PC3-12800 DDR3 SDRAM
6MB L2/up to 8MB L3 cache memory
1TB Serial ATA hard drive (7200 rpm)
Barracuda 7200 rpm 2 TB extra internal harddrive with fraps videos recording to it.
And a EVGA 660 2 GB graphics card

I've done research and I've dropped the settings on fraps and games and I still get the same problem.

I was wondering if there is anything I can do to fix it.

At what resolution are you recording?

Try a smaller resolution.

You can choose what FPS you want to record at. By default FRAPS will record at 30 FPS, it'll lock. You can change to 50 or 60 FPS. The more FPS you choose, the harder performance hit you will get, but the video will be smoother, when you're done recording.

I tried a bunch of different choices even 29 fps. but I switched to dxtory and its alot better.

Nevermind , they both drop my fps. Dxtory not so bad but after I record the video is more laggy. I guess my computer cant handle it. Even when I drop my ingame settings and start recording the fps drops.

When I play games normally its flawless.

What is the game you are recording, the resolution of the game and it normal fps while not recording.

Games like skyrim. Dayz or arma 2. Skryim is on ultra resolution and I get about 50 to 65 fpsnot recording. Arma 2 I get around 35 to 50 depending where. Settings on arma2 or high to to really high.

In dextory I set a seting to 4 threads and force gpu it seemed to help a lot. Also my I have a 6 core processor and there is a setting for 6 threads should I set that one?

From CNET: The bottleneck of No. 1 of the speed of capture is a write-in speed to HDD. If it is the environment of two or more HDD, this function will accelerate writing speed.

I dont think an external hd would help if conected by USB 2 as it would be limitted to speed of USB 2. USB 3 or ESATA conection may be ok. Having a second hd in the pc would provide the best write speed.

I don't understand the answers in this thread. You will NEVER get the same performance recording with FRAPS (or other) because you're using a lot of resources to "write" your gameplay on disk.

If you were playing games like minecraft or other less demanding games than FRAPS would be perfect for you...but you're not.

You need to get a video capture device that is hooked up to an external storage device (external harddrive). That, won't affect your PC performance because it's operating externally.

You should do a bit of research for whatever'll be your needs (in video recording).
