Hey guys,

I have a rudimentary knowledge of AV. I'm also really tired of spending $50 for it. I have MalwareBytes for Adware/spyware/etc.ware, and Norton for AV/firewall. I've heard great things about Microsoft Security Essentials, but I also get the feeling there aren't any free programs that feature active protection.

It begs the question...do I even need a firewall?

Definitely would have to agree with all the other suggestions. AVG is by far the best. Also, Amazon do really good deals on multi-machine licensed versions of the full internet security. You can usually get it from them for about £25 for 4 machines for 2 years!
