Free to upgrade from windows xp to vista or 7 ?

With a computer that has a regular copy of windows xp home with original XP disc and coa. Can this computer be upgraded to vista or windows 7 using upgrade media let say an iso disc downloaded from the net. USING the original windows XP OS/ COA install ?

You can upgrade it from something downloaded from the web sure but you still need a valid license key. Where you get the media makes little difference.
