I currently have an i9-10850K CPU with an EVGA Z490 Dark motherboard.
My friend is giving me an intel Core i7-13700K CPU and an MSI Pro Z690-A Wi-Fi motherboard.

Is this an upgrade or not ?
Using PC for gaming.

Thanks in advance

The 13th Gen i7 is "better" than a 10th Gen i9.
Will you actually notice? Unknown.
Is it worth the whole OS reinstall stuff? Again, unknown.
(and yes, you'd have to do that)
I’m ok with the os reinstall if there’s gonna be an improvement was trying to look into benchmarks was struggling to understand plus the 13700 was always getting benched with better gpus. Is there no way to confirm there would be an improvement? Don’t feel like taking my pc and his pc apart just for it to do nothing

As those benchmarks show, the 13th gen is "better" than the 10th gen.

Now....will that actually translate into "better" gameplay? Unknown. And that may depend on the rest of your system, the games you play, and their settings.

I have a 3080 going to be play fort valorant and the finals always all low settings for competitive games you probably can’t guess how much better it’s going to be all I want to know is it’s never gonna preform worse then my i9 10850k right?

As said, hard to know how much of an immediate difference you'd notice.

For the future though, that motherboard probably has more longevity to it than your current one: 4 DIMMS DDR5 192 GB max vs your current 2 DIMMS DDR4 64 GB max; 4 M.2 slots vs 2; a PCIe 5.0 GPU slot vs PCIe 3.0; WiFi 6E vs 6...less impressive USB options on the back though.

So even if you don't notice a huge boost now, it could be that in a couple of years you'll appreciate the upgrade options you have; whereas if you stick with your current setup, you might find your board wanting in a couple of years and end up having to pay to upgrade.

Plus of course if you take the upgrade you could sell your current CPU + motherboard + RAM as a bundle and make some money (once you're happy with your new system), or pass it on to somebody else free for karma.

I'd say, if you think you really won't want to upgrade any part of your system during the next three years then it might not be worth the hassle. But if you might do then this is probably a worthwhile thing to do now if you're being given free parts.
