joluk44 :
does anyone know of any single player games similar to freelancer? ive played it so much that ive run out of systems to explore, and ive joined both the bad guys and the good guys in after campaign free roam.
id rather go to a newer game, but it needs to be single player as my net 999's regularly when i try do mmo games.
A few suggestions:
There is a new game that might interest you called
Galaxy On Fire Full HD. Go here to check it out/purchase it. You can also get it at Gamersgate and a few other places:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/212010/?snr=1_7_suggest__13
I had it for my iPod touch and loved it - but now they have a version that runs on a PC and another version runs on a Mac. If you take a look, you might like it.
FREELANCER:
Have you have tried all of the mods? There are tons out there that have expanded Freelancer by adding new systems, characters, ships, etc. This is where you go for mods - single player or otherwise:
http://the-starport.net/
Mods are typically free. As long as you have a copy of Freelancer the mods are free to download and play. The Starport is a site for all things Freelancer. The mods do have very simple directions; so you don't need to be an IT person to install them.
You mentioned issues with your internet connection. (Not sure what 999 refers to but I am guessing it means your connection either crashes or lags). If, at some point, you end up with a decent connection, there is a gaming community that plays Freelancer together... Google the term 'Discovery PTC' to download a copy of the mod and find info about how to access the multiplayer server. (The mod and info about it can be found on the Starport site, too, if you want to check it out).
OTHER GAMES/RESOURCES:
FTL: Faster Than Light is another new game similar to Freelancer. Here is a link:
http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/faster_than_light
or on steam:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/212680/
It was just released so it is selling at a 10% discount. After this week, I think the price goes up to $9.99. I have read a lot of reviews and so far everyone has said great things about it. I do know the developer is involved in making sure the players have a bug free experience.
Here are the two places where you can find almost every scifi themed computer game developed and/or released.
These sites have active fan bases; if there is a new SciFi game in the works they may know about it:
www.spacesimcentral.com
and:

Good luck. I hope this helps you or someone else...
Cheers!
