hey guys this is my first forum question ever :)
i'm planing to build a Freenas server to backup my media and some small files
i want to run plex and download torrent on it
my options in hardware are limited (because i live in egypt prices are kinda higher and if i want to buy something online from abroad the customes could be 75-->150 % of the product's price not sure )

so here what i was thinking :

Processor :

AMD A4-6300 Richland 3.7GHz (3.9GHz Turbo) Socket FM2 65W Dual-Core Desktop APU
or
AMD A6-6400K Richland 3.9GHz Socket FM2 65W Dual-Core Desktop APU - Black Edition

for the motherboard

MSI A88XM-E35 Socket FM2+ Motherboard
http://www.egprices.com/en/product/msi-a88xm-e35-socket-fm2-motherboard-delta-computer-supplies

and RAM

G.skill RipjawsX 16GB (2 X 8GB) DDR3 1866 CL9 1.5v Dual Channel Memory Kit

and for the Hards

3 X Western Digital WD Red WD30EFRX 3TB SATA 6Gb/s 64 MB NAS HDD
or
3 X Seagate ST2000DX001 2TB MLC/8GB 7200 64MB SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5 Hybrid SSHD

so any suggestions/Tips will help

thank you in advance

another thought :

will it be better to use an old workstation/server like (Dell T7400 --- > too expensive 7000 Egyptian pound = 935$)
or (Server Sun fire x4250 --> 4000 Egyptian pound = 533$)
or something like those

The hybrid drives are wasted in a nas. You will be limited to the speed of the network and barely exceed 100MB/s which the drives can do without the extra expense of the nand cache.

I would go with the WD Red's, you will find that you never have enough room one you start saving everything. LoL

As for the processor, you should be able to handle transcoding 1 video at a time.

first of all thank you so much for your help :)
second okay WD red's 😀
third what is transcoding exactly i search it before to find it's live feed from a device like a camcorder or something
i don't think i will do that and if i do it i will stream to the main PC first then transfer it to the Freenas box
or you mean streaming???? and by streaming i mean watching a movie that is on freenas box on another PC or laptop
using normal video player or maybe plex
and the motherboard is compatible with freenas?? or should go for a higher mobo??

thank you sooo much:) and happy new year

Its part of streaming if the end device cannot play the file natively. It may be changing the resolution or the encoding of the file (something like avi to mpeg2). Under those condition the processor needs to be able to transcode the file equal to or greater than the rate at which you watch it to allow an uninterrupted viewing session. The end effect on a low transcoding speed is similar to a youtube video buffering but the cause is whats different. That processor should handle 1 stream if transcoding is needed.

If you save files in a format your local pc/tv can play then no transcoding is needed and you are only limited in streaming by the bandwidth of your network. {This is what I do}

Thank you so much for all the info :)
will it be better to use an old workstation/server like (Dell T7400 --- > too expensive 7000 Egyptian pound = 935$)

you got the point :) i will add these info in the original post too

thank you man
