Rite, my question has a few parts to it so I'll start with wot my setup is and wot I want to do.

I have the parts to build myself a freenas box over the weekend. Parts are

CPU - G1850
Mobo - E3C224D2I
Ram - 2x8gb (16gb) ddr3 1600 crucial ecc
HDD - 4x HGST deskstar Nas 7200 4Tb (16tb)
PSU - evga 430w 80+
Case - fractal design node 304

So I'm going to use freenas but can't find anywhere a guide to getting my VPN (expressvpn) running in freenas and won't be changing VPN as i like it and have paid for a year.

I want my box to be my Plex and file server and do some standard storage to free up my normal pc.

Currently (on my normal pc) with my VPN active I can't access Plex remotely which is a big part of what I want to do and have to switch off the VPN to access Plex. I want to get remote access running with my VPN active. I also do some torrenting and would not want to do that without the cover of a VPN. Incase I can't get the vpn running on freenas am I still covered if I do the torrenting to my normal pc through the VPN but then transfer the downloaded file to the Nas box for remote access? Ideally I would like to put my VPN at the router level but I'm using bt homehub 5 and it doesn't have this facility (as far as I know) so this will have to remain the case until I get a pf sence router going but that's a while off.

Main things are get [strike]expressvpn[/strike] ExpressVPN running in [strike]freenas[/strike] FreeNAS and get Plex remote access through [strike]express VPN[/strike] ExpressVPN.

I am new to networking but reasonably experienced with building and running computers.

Any and all help and advice welcome.

Thanks

Hi, this link will help... check the comment by bgeerdes and below... https://www.reddit.com/r/PleX/comments/631d1w/vpn_and_plex/
Thanks sohom. Only got a quick read through it and by the sounds of it there mite be a solution or at least an avenue for investigation in there but when I the Nas box built I'll have a proper go through it.
