My Freeserve dial up stopped working a few weeks back, after about a year of trouble free use.

Several calls later, I had spent an hour on hold and the rest of the time being told by different people that I was using the wrong username. Eventually I tired of beng told the same thing which I knew was wrong, and I sent them an email from work which, while not offensive, was designed to tell them to sort it out or lose a customer.

They sent an email back. Here are some quotes directly from it:

"We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing connection difficulties on our Anytime service."

"As such, we would like to offer you the opportunity to download the Freeserve connection kit, which will greatly improve your AnyTime Internet Connection."

"If you click on the link below, you will be asked to log in using your Freeserve AnyTime account details."

If we assume for a moment that I could have actually downloaded this (I can't download personal stuff at work)
I wonder exactly how any piece of software can "greatly improve" a dial up connection.....hmmm...

I smell something brown and sticky. And it's not a stick.

Needless to say I cancelled my account.

It's one thing to hold a hammer in your hand, but do you have it in you? Can you pound that motherboard?

Clearly then the tech support people are clueless. And nobody could have told him that over the phone or via email? C'mon, you don't need to download an installer to change (or add) a freakin' dialup phone number.
