Suppose you wanted to buy a new gpu and monitor in a weeks time and had the choice between RX 480 with a Freesync monitor and a GTX 1070 with a normal monitor.

So the GTX 1070 will most probably be 50% more powerful than the RX 480 meaning that at the games settings that it would get 40 fps the 1070 would get 60 fps.

In this hypothetical situation the RX 480 with the Freesync monitor is EQUAL in price to GTX 1070 with normal monitor.

Which combo would be the better purchase for the experience.

Freesync is not a game feature, its a panel feature. I your monitor supports Freesync and you got an amd gpu, it is said that 50fps even 40 fps dont feel laggy. Yes rx480 with a 1080p Freesync monitor will be a gamechanging feature. Plus almost every freesync monitor is 144hz except some aoc models. So in games like CS:GO, rx480 can hit 120-144fps and you will be surprised of what you see. Im waiting my Gsync monitor and gtx 1080 btw so if it arives first ill inform you about 40-50 fps playability. If u got the money go for it. Thinking about GSYNC in the otherhand is way more expensive. Thinking of 1070 with your 60hz monitor....well i dont know. 1070 will hardly fall under 60fps in most of todays games so i assume you will be fine...
