FreeSync display glitches

Hi,

I recently got an IPS monitor with FreeSync functionality. It only supports up to 75hz but I decided to give it a try none the less as I own an AMD card (albeit a very old one!, 5850 HD). Once I turned it on I noticed a bunch of weird glitches on screen including some flickering green pixels and a horizontal green line. I immediately turned it off and tried turning it back on while fiddling with a few settings in the Catalyst Control Centre.

Every now and then I could get it to work with a clear image but only very rarely. I tried booting up a game with Fraps to see if it was indeed running at a refresh rate of 75hz and it was. Even movement on the desktop felt smoother in general but 99% of the time the weird glitches reappeared. Eventually I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the AMD drivers, trying out Radeon Crimson, which told me the display wasn't even capable of FreeSync. Regardless of this I can still activate FreeSync via the monitors on screen display but still get the same odd glitches.

I am just curious to know what is causing this, I know I am using a very old video card (must be about 7+ years old now) but if it is incompatible with FreeSync technology then how am I able to get it working with no issues on rare occasions. I'll include a link to a video of said glitches below:

Also the name/make/model of the monitor is "LG 23MP68VQ", I'll include a link to it here:

Many thanks.

That card can not do freesync. Your monitor isnt really doing freesync as its not a compatible card. You need at least an R series card. Its more than likely you telling the monitor to do something the card itself isnt capable of and its glitching out. When it is "working" you are just getting a placebo affect. Its not like it dosnt work due to drivers it just dosnt work due to the physical hardware to do it isnt on that card.
