Freezing display - nothing in event viewer

I've had this issue for 6 months or so now. I can't say there is really any real consistency with this problem other than it happening randomly and there being no record of it other than me having to hold my power button to reset the machine. Both screens freeze and ctrl+alt+del won't do anything and the mouse won't move. A while back it happened and on reboot i couldn't get any displays to work. I ended up having to put my graphics card into another pcie slot which then got me back up and online. I pushed the problem up to the slot going bad and thought it would be fixed now. The freezing is back once again. My bios is running the latest version and i've gone through device manager and updated any drivers with an update option. Below are my specs.

CPU: amd fx 8350
16 gb of ram
Asus m5a99fx pro r2.0 motherboard
GTX 960 4GB
2 monitors (both old and running 900p @ 60hz)
I've got an ssd connected and a hd for mass storage

Solution
Nothing will appear in event viewer in cases of freezing because freezing is not an event. The only thing that will be recorded is the kernel power shutdown, if that.

- Update your graphics card drivers to latest versions.

- Try reseating the card again a few times. I've had to reseat 3-5 times to get a card to stop freezing on some motherboards. If not seated quite right, the system will freeze completely if the connection is broken. This can also happen if you have a badly seated PCI card as well.

- Try a different graphics card.
