Question Freezing followed by black screen crash

Sometimes, but not often, I'm gaming and my computer freezes up and then the screen goes black. I look inside of my tower and the motherboard is displaying an amber light with debug code 8. Not 08 , just a singular 8. When I hold the power button to force the system off and reboot it, it turns back on normally as if nothing happened. Windows event viewer indicates the system shut down unexpectedly, with no reasoning. What's going on with my computer?
