Question Freezing in Games

Recently in like the past couple of months I have been encountering feezes in games that used to run smoothly (mainly I am playing Hunt Showdown and Age of Empires Defnitive Edition). I am still running these games at 50-60 FPS on high graphics. In Hunt Showdown the game freezes, but comes back to life in about 5-10 seconds. In Age of Empires, I get the not responding window, sometimes it crashes fully . A weird thing that is really annoying, is that when the game does crash, it does not close when end process on the popup window . It stays 'not responding', and sometimes when I try and end task via task manager, task manager itself stops responding. In these situations I retain control over other programmes such as Chrome which are allready open, but I have to sign out to fix it.

2x 8Gb 2400MGHZ DDR4 Ram
I76700K
Gtx 1060 3Gb
Gigabyte Motherboard (I can try find the mdoel as I can't remember)
2x 1Tb HDD
1x 250Gb SSD wiht windows installed on it

I did make this PC myself a few years back and have upgraded it with an extra stick of RAM, a new processor and an SSD.
I have windows on my SSD but Steam and most my games on my HDDs .

There has bee a bit of a general slowdown upon openign progammes recently too.
