When i play in a server with alot of people and any place, besides wake island and karkand, it freezes within seconds im playing. I believe its my video card, but im not sure. I have a Geforce 6800 128mb. The only other thing it could be is my RAM. I have 1 gig. My processor is not the problem i know that for sure. I have a AMD athlone x2 64 2.2ghz (4200+).

If anyone out there can help me figure out why this freezing, i would be greatful. :)

What settings are you using?

I have the 6800 and it would seem that setting the lighting, shadows, and geometry all affect the freezing. It's totally annoying, but try switching those to low and then move one by one up till it freezes. Then you can lower the one that's causing problems.

That's all i got.

I think you have issues with your card...

I can play BF2 on my comp(specs are in sig) perfectly without any problems.
My settings are on 1024x768 Med, and I can play on full 64/64 servers without any problems.

It's the RAM. I have a 6600GT 128mb and I run fine with 1280 * 1024 everything on high except textures. I have 1gb ram. You need to get 2gb. I do too :) I even checked; one time i turned up the texture all the way, and it was laggy as shit. it looked great, but it was laggy as hell, so i keep it on medium now

i've been running two gigs and it did get rid of lag, but freezing still happened unless i turned things down a bit. Perhaps it's my old rig. =(

It probably because the x600 has 256mb of video memory and the 6800 has only 128mb, which could make a big difference on games like BF2 which require lots of texture memory and not rely on system memory as much.

My 9700pro which has 256mb of ram I believe(might need to count/check chip type >.<) runs BF2 smoothly on 1024x768/Med settings/Visibility 100%.

I'm pretty sure 6800s with 256mb of v-mem, would run a lot smoother than ones with just 128mb. It could even outperform the x600.

2 Gig's got rid of a lot of lag and choppiness for me, and that was going from a healthy 1 Gig. It loaded faster too. But keep in mind that your settings will still cause framerate issues if its up too high. Try everything on High, except turn AA to 2x, and leave Lighting and Shadows at Medium.

I get about 40-50 FPS like this with my X800XT 256mb, 2 Gigs, and a 3500+.

I'd disagree on the video card.

I used to have an AMD xp3000+ with 1gb ram and a 6600gt 128mb agp card. I played everything on medium in bf2. I then upgraded to 2gb ram and i could play some things on high settings without any problems (not iron gator in the carrier though lol).

Fair enough, with the new pc I have no probs at all on any map but 2gb is a real must for bf2. It makes a huge difference with load times as well.

Now with my current setup, I can have everything to high with 4 x aa and still get 100fps on Dalian Plant.

You will need to turn down the settings. BF2 is a resource hog, it wants as much ram as possible and likes 256 mb or more on the video card. THG did a review on how the ram impacts games (including BF2) and the comparison between 1 and 2 GB of ram was impressive. The average framerates were definitely higher even with the same video card. I tried BF2 on a 6800 with 128 mb ram and it doesn't play any better than my 9800 pro. When I upgraded to a X850 PRO card (hoping to soft mod it) the game showed a noticeable improvement (the X850 PRO has 256 mb ram). Good luck and have fun.

hey buddy! This weekend i tried messing with settings i never touched before. Try this (it totally eliminated my freeze problem):

First Change your Settings to this (only works with my XFX 6800)

I set AA to 4x
I set AF to 16x

Exited the Nvidia icon next to my clock
BF video settings are:
Med
Med
Low
Med
Low
Off
Off
Off
Low
Off

I haven't tried tweaking it anymore yet. But it's been solid for a week. I'll keep playing w/ settings and reply
