Freezing with nothing but OS installed

Hey guys,
I built my new PC yesterday and then then installed windows 8 pro on it (using the upgrade software). Everything seems to be fine initially, except that every time it tries to connect to the Internet it freezes and also appears to randomly freeze (even when doing nothing at all), leaving the only option to be restarting the system.

Windows isn't activated yet as I'm waiting for my Windows 8 OEM copy to arrive from amazon (should arrive tomorrow).

Is it randomly freezing because its not yet activated? Of have I done something wrong during hardware setup?

Have you installed the drivers that came with your motherboard?
Particularly the lan drivers?

What hardware? And as geofelt said, check that you loaded your drivers. I'm assuming no overclocking have been done yet? I'm not too familiar with an unactivated Windows 8 freezing.

I tested windows 8 using the upgrade package and had no issues.
It was never connected to the internet and was not activated.

I disliked the metro interface and will stay on windows 7.

Ah no I haven't installed the driver for the wireless card yet so it could be that. Still unsure about the freezing when idle.

I've uninstalled windows (going to just go with using the disk I get tomorrow) and I've currently got the bios running and I've left that going for about 20min now and it hasn't frozen (would have done by now in windows) so in pretty sure it's not hardware related

Okay so after uninstalling windows 8 pro unactivated, I reinstalled windows 8 (not pro) OEM and activated it. However I was still seeing a random system freeze a few min after turning on the PC. I installed the driver software I got with the mobo and keyboard, tried to install the GPU software (however all that happens when I run the CD is the gigabyte title comes up and nothing else happens (but doesn't freeze)). Also tried running the wifi card cd but it won't let me install the driver because it says it won't run on this system??

So I removed the wifi card and now everything seems to be working fine. However I haven't connected to the Internet as our ISP hasn't come round to give it set up the router yet.

Also haven't run any intensive programms as due to complete lack of Internet I can't install any yet.

I got an ASUS wireless card. Thing froze everytime I opened up internet, found out I could still run the wireless card without installing the ASUS program that caused freezes. Try just putting in the wireless card and seeing if you can use it without the provided software.
