From the little I really get to read about on the French leaders.. Sarkozy doesn't seem bad. It appears to say what he means, even against popular opinion. Raising the retirement age from 60 to 62 was a necessary move given the longer life of people these days..

I give credit to the French these days.. they do what they want for their country, F'all everyone else. Wish some other countries would start doing that again.
 
I think the problem is that French politics is so complicated that nobody understands it well.

Gropouce I am going to sticky this for you and we will all try to learn a bit about French politics while you calmly explain.

Sarkozy has managed at least one thing during his five-years, obviously... getting the sympathy of anglophones people.
Or maybe it's just thanks to Carla.

I think it comes from unfamiliarity with the French political field, which is normal.

The French generally appreciate the relationship with the united states, even if we do not always agree.
But admire the American ostentatiously is not a good thing for whoever wants to become (or remain) president in France.

Historically, from the time we were British colonies, we have been in conflict with France more often than not.

Notice that I said "in conflict with", not at war with". There is a difference.
 



I partly disagree there... for what is important, USA and France has always been on the same wave length : liberty, democracy, cuba affair (1st support to USA came from De Gaulle !!! in a time where France was trying to win her independance in the western camp), Afghanistan, 9/11 (Chirac was the 1st foreigner to support and come to NYC)...

Allied doesn't mean "vassal" or "at orders". A true Friend can answer you "NO" when a follower will always say "AYE AYE SIR".

 
Sarkozy lost now and perhaps France with their new leader will begin to climb out of their bad economy they are in now.Only time will tell.

Hollande is the new president, and my point of view is it's a good thing.
He is not my first choice, but i gave him my vote because he was the one who could beat Sarko.
Hope we will have 5 good years.

I guess you won't hae unicersity students rioting with a socialist at the helm.

He seems good with the financials ... and seems quite calm.
 


His inauguration took place on May 15
We will then know the name of his Prime Minister and the team with which he will work.
Two people are approached to be Prime Minister.
Martine Aubry, mayor of Lille and previous minister of labor under President Mitterrand, then minister of employment and solidarity under President Chirac (nominated by Lionel Jospin)
Jean-Marc Ayrault, Mayor of Nantes and President of the Socialist Group in the National Assembly.

I wish we would ditch the British here in Australia and have a real president of our own instead of a caretaker (Prime Minister).

We have an unmarried barren Welsh woman as our current PM ... frankly a bit of a dissappointment for me as a labour man.

I had high hopes Kevin Rudd would be back as our PM but that didn't happen.

Our opposition (Liberal party) is polling very well and likely to win the next election ... pity really as the current leader of the opposition is a mad ex-monk who can't engage his brain prior to speaking ... and has a very limited mind.

The deputy Joe Hockey is a credible leader though.

Politically our labour party is in a bit of a shambles due to two present members ... think Kahn.

Hi, I'm heavily in debt. Instead of cutting back on spending and paying off my credit cards, I'm going to go out and spend more on the my credit cards.

It doesn't work on a personal level, it will not work at a government level.

I'll give him a chance though.. because I'm honestly glad it'll fail miserably in France before it takes a stronger foothold in the US.
 


In Europe, we don't use as many credit cards as in US.
So no need to speculate on the intentions of a president whose you don't know the policies program.

You believe that there are only two possibilities, oldman? No alternative?
The stimulus investment is certainly a bad solution to this economic crisis. Austerity is inefficient and Greece is one example.
Why not try a more Keynesian approach?
The showdown with Germany to change the EU treaty will begin. Merkel seems to be in trouble after the electoral debacle of her political party. This is a significant element.

As for the Muslim vote, it does not interest anyone in France, except perhaps those who voted for Le Pen, but it's no surprise.
It is as interesting as the evangelical vote for Romney.
Note that Francois Hollande is a great defender of secularism, and this is also why I voted for him. Religion in politics is that the knife is to puree.

Gropouce is mean. He never told me that you ask for me and Xiiiime.

About the election, I think that François Hollande won it because many people didn't like Nicolas Sarkozy.
Even if he has an annoying personality,I think he did good things for french people (even against their will).

Many of my friends and family' members voted for Hollande just because they didn't want to vote for Sarkozy (against the man, not his ideas).



I think it's not very complicated either, but nobody cares because all politicians are liars. They all use wooden language so now, nobody takes them seriously.

When I look/listen at a political interview, I think that they say what people wants to hear.
