[SOLVED] Frequent BSOD - ntoskrnl.exe+3f88c0

Hi, I've been having issues with my computer BSODing frequently. It started a few months ago maybe only getting 1 BSOD every day or two, but it has gotten worse lately. I built this computer around 2 years ago and before a few months ago I was having no issues.

I recently wiped my SSD and did a fresh install of windows, but that didn't fix the issue. I've run memtest86 and it did 4 passes with no errors found. I've also swapped out my RAM with another PC that doesn't have issues and that didn't fix the issue.

Specs:
CPU: Ryzen 5 3600
Mobo: B450 AORUS Elite
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER
DDR4 3200 RAM 2x8GB
Samsung EVO 970 1TB NVMe m.2 SSD
Windows 10 Pro

Here's a zipped folder of some of the dmp files: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1F8y8OSF6IN6kYPJ4u1sNwPbW4YJQuRXa/view?usp=sharing

Does anyone know what might be the problem or how I could find out? I'd think it's a hardware issue since a fresh install didn't help, but is there a way to figure out which parts I need to replace? I guess it's also possible some of the drivers windows automatically installed are causing the issue.

Let me know if there's any more info that would be useful, and thanks a ton in advance!

is worker 3 still sticking? I don't know how much I can trust dumps if the Worker is still not finishing. In other peoples PC, its a sign of an unstable Overclock, but you not overclocked. Could be the CPU.

Results

nothing obvious from dumps. Processes named are victims, memory corruption doesn't mean ram... I see it on almost every BSOD.
Could just be drivers. I don't see any sign its not. From errors received anyway.

I would update BIOS as you on F51 and there are 7 newer ones since yours

i see you need some new drivers though
try updating chipset drivers - https://www.amd.com/en/support/chipsets/amd-socket-am4/b450
newer audio drivers - https://www.gigabyte.com/au/Motherboard/B450-AORUS-ELITE-rev-1x/support#support-dl-driver-audio
download Win10 Auto Installation Program (NDIS) from under windows header here - https://www.realtek.com/en/componen...0-1000m-gigabit-ethernet-pci-express-software
Update Nvidia drivers.
try using the Samsung NVME drivers - https://semiconductor.samsung.com/consumer-storage/support/tools/

I've updated all the drivers, but didn't update the BIOS since I heard if something goes wrong you could brick your motherboard. I guess I'll go ahead and do this now since I'm still having issues.

After updating the drivers I've had 3 crashes on my PC, but none of them created a .dmp file and the blue screen was too short-lived for me to read the message on it.

Reliability monitor is just showing an event saying "Windows was not properly shut down" with these 3 crashes, but there's not a separate event that says "Windows stopped working" or that Windows was "Shut down unexpectedly" like it had for the prior bsods.

Any idea what might be going on? I'll work on updating my BIOS and see if these crashes keep happening.

Yes, I just have the nvme. I don't believe I've ever changed the size of my page file, is that something you do in the BIOS?

I installed Samsung Magician, and it says the selected drive doesn't support diagnostic scans, but the S.M.A.R.T. shows everything as good.

Is it possible my PSU is going bad and that's causing some of the issues?

Page file is on the nvme, its why I asked about the drive. If its the thing crashing, you won't get dumps.
Looking at the previous crashes, it doesn't seem that the crashes included the drive though, I don't see any operations on storage on all 4. I would expect to see Hard faults and there are none.

And it says the selected drive doesn't support diagnostic scans,
Seems that is right, I didn't know 970 didn't get them but the 970 Evo plus does. I have a 970 Evo Plus, I assumed all 970 got it. Learn a new thing every day. Its not overly useful.

try running this overnight - https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/prime95-download.html
Prime 95 how to Guide: http://www.playtool.com/pages/prime95/prime95.html
it will take a while.

What PSU do you have? just for completion, I don't blame it right now.

worker 3. Rounding error

You can fix that by giving more voltage to ram. in the bios. raise it one increment and test again.
Keep changing it until you can run prime 95 without errors, then you probably won't get any more BSOD.

Okay, great. I'll try it out and report back on whether it works. I might not run prime 95 again until tonight, but I'll let you know either way.

Thanks a ton for the help!

Over the last week or so I've been slowly upping the RAM voltage and retesting. It started at 1.20V and it's up to 1.35V now and I'm still getting errors with Prime95. Is it safe to continue increasing the voltage or is it possible that's not what is causing the issue?

Interestingly it's always worker 3 that's erroring. Worker 5 will occasionally have errors too.

It could just be bad ram and replacing it would resolve the error problem.

I wouldn't keep raising voltage.

it could be CPU or Ram, its impossible to test CPU any other way.
I would take PC to repair store and ask them to try different ram in PC, see if that fixes errors.

I don't have a lot of info as to what all the workers do in prime95

I have another older PC that still works fine and tried swapping the RAM out a few weeks back. My PC was still crashing with the other one's RAM, but that was before I updated all my drivers. Do you think I should do that again and if it's still crashing then it's a CPU issue?

You can't just swap old ram in, Ryzen CPU are picky about what they use.
So that might not prove anything.

Prime tests 3 things
  1. ram
  2. CPU
  3. Power Supply
So what Power Supply do you have?

Would have been nice to find out what all the workers do in Prime 95.

My PSU is GIGABYTE P550B 550W 80+B ATX.

It's honestly probably cheaper for me to just buy new RAM than to take it to a repair shop, so maybe that's what I should do.

Would it be helpful if I reran the Prime 95 test with the 1.35V to my RAM and post the results? If so, I can do that again later today.

Is it time to just buy new RAM/PSU/CPU? Should I get a new mobo too?
i don't like guessing but I think of the 3 it is probably the Ram. I would try there first.

Before you buy anything, try updating your bios as you a few behind, it might help = https://www.gigabyte.com/au/Motherboard/B450-AORUS-ELITE-rev-1x/support#support-dl-bios

Okay, sounds like a plan. I just updated my BIOS, so we'll see if that fixes it. I'll run Prime 95 again if it errors, I'll up my RAM voltage to 1.25, then 1.30. If it's still erroring then, I guess I'll buy more RAM sometime this week.

Is there any particular RAM I should buy that would be most compatible with my ryzen and other parts?

Edit: Well that was fast, worker #3 already had a rounding error after around 8-9 minutes.

ram choices - Best to choose ram tested by Motherboard maker with CPU & board - https://download.gigabyte.com/FileL...atisse.pdf?v=a0a08d71b3b84f0182d326e14d5c21fe
finding sticks that have same codes might be difficult for some makers as they may have replaced models with newer ones. Some makers like Corsair just change the codes slightly each version to show its the next one.

Another way is go some memory makers websites and see what they tested on the motherboard
Crucial
Corsair
G Skill don't have your motherboard it seems

I am sure there are other memory makers, just can't think of them off my head.

Or just show a stick on here before buying it.

It looks like this one is on Crucial's website listed as compatible, but it wasn't in the first link you sent:

https://www.crucial.com/memory/ddr4/ct16g4dfra32a

Should I go ahead and buy this one?

How do you mean its not on website? I found link via the search I showed you, it might be on page 2.
or do you mean its not on their website store?
vw6Sk1B.jpg

because you right then.

probably find it on other sites they don't link to directly

the ram your listed has slower latency meaning it reacts slower to instructions. its latency is 22, the one I linked is 16
