Description of Original Problem: It all started when trying to installing Windows for the first time. I must mention, this was an old version of Windows from an old retail boot USB I have always used for installing Windows on all my other PCs. The issue was, every time I finished selecting my Windows privacy settings, it would just give me some weird error message (no code) and restart. This was immediately a worrying sign. I managed to fix this by making my own boot USB with Windows 20H2 and installing that. I though this would be the end of my issues (how stupid of me to think).
After installing Windows, I was immediately prompted to install ASUS Armory Crate, which I obliged and installed. I then updated all my drivers (to the ones mentioned in the above information), all was well. I installed iCue to control the RGB components in my system (RAM, Motherboard, and CPU Pump). I wasn't expecting issues, so at the time didn't look into Reliability Monitor to see if there were any issues, so I don't know exactly when applications started failing. I then thought, yay, time to play some games, so installed Ubisoft Connect and then Watch Dogs Legion. Initially things were working fine, except from a slight frame jitter while VSync is enabled. I then paused my game to grab something to eat, while I was walking back to my PC, I noticed a the dreaded BSOD, with an error which I didn't manage to take a picture of unfortunately.
After the PC restarting itself, I had a look at reliability monitor to find a bunch of Windows "Hardware Error" messages and application crashes (e.g. iCue and Armoury Crate). As well as the other messages, I also saw a bunch of "Windows was not properly shut down" messages, however, I have seen this before on multiple fully working computers.
Since the above incident, I have also had Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War cause a BSOD while trying to launch the game, then when the PC restarts, the game is completely gone (uninstalled itself).
I have also noticed Sea of Thieves have a constant frame jitter (much like what I saw in Watch Dogs Legion) while VSync with double buffering is enabled, despite getting around 200FPS when it's not enabled. The only reason I care is because the screen taring is insane without VSync and the input delay of quadruple buffering is almost unplayable. I have noticed the in-game FPS counter is very jumpy (between 57-63) even while I am standing still.
These issues are annoying and all, but the biggest annoyance is how stuttery YouTube and other applications (e.g. Battle.net) are while I'm playing a video and scrolling on the page at the same time (seems worse at 1080p than 4K), I also noticed that any application which involves any sort of video (even if it's not playing) is incredibly stuttery to move / scroll around, especially if I move the application to the side of my screen and then move it back in (maybe this is normal 🤷♂️).
Troubleshooting:
- Swapped to 2x 2400MHz RAM (seems to make things a little worse, but is hard to tell)
- Swapped to 2x 3600MHz RAM (couldn't boot after first restart, with or without D.O.C.P).
- Swapped RTX 3090 to GTX 1070 - No improvement.
- Replaced motherboard - No improvement.
- Replaced R9 3900X with R9 3900XT - Seems to have stop the BSOD and crashes with Black Ops Cold War. Nothing else has improved.
- I reinstalled Windows, didn't install any software other than the games which were having issues (Watch Dogs, Black Ops, and Sea of Thieves), didn't even update drivers. This didn't have any effect other than stopping iCue, Armour Crate, and Wallpaper Engine from crashing since they were not installed. I then tried updating just essential drivers. This had no positive effect.
- Unplugged other drives (only kept my Samsung 970 Evo NVMe SSD installed). No positive effect.
I have attached a link to a OneDrive folder with the most recent BSOD I received and a bunch of other BSOD and error reports I received while using my PC: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AiQhGoJgVArAhJI3VIXpeBitAUujgg?e=DbX6ao
I really hope someone is able to help me out as I am pulling my hair out trying to figure out these issues and what's causing them.
Thank you in advanced!
