Frequent post race lockups

Every 5-10 races or so the game will lockup after a race, and
it happens at the same spot each time: at the winner screen
showing all the times of each car. The only option on the screen is
"continue", and pressing it, hitting return or any other key does nothing.
The only way I can get out of the screen is to hit the windows key and
from the desktop hit -ctl/al/del and end nfsu2 from the task manager.
This is frustrating because it doesnt save my race (and often 3 or 4
races before the race that locked up arent saved either).

Is anyone else having this issue?
any tips on how to fix/avoid this?

try the autosave option, it should save the game as soon as a race finishes
