Fresh build, will this work well?

Solution
Don't get me wrong, the 840 is a good SSD. It's just that personally, and based on this 'rating system', I would go for the Kingston HyperX. You can see that the HyperX usually retails for alot more than what it is currently on offer for (amazon).
That will do you well for at least a few years (3/4/5).

If it is mainly for gaming then only 8GB of RAM is necessary and for storage you may want to bear in mind the possible cost of another hard drive for more space.

Hope that helped :)

Well the goal was to have the OS and games installed on the SSD and everything else on the 1TB sata drive?
You think I need more?

Yes that sounds like a good plan, it was just that you said 'some photo and music storage' - wasn't sure how much that meant. But most people are find with 1TB and you can cheaply buy another if the need arises.

If you aren't going for the Samsung 840 Pro SSD then a good idea would be to swap that for a Kingston HyperX 3K.

Let me know what you choose & hope that helped :)

I have read a lot of good things about the Samsung 840 series in general.

Thank you, I ended up getting the 840EVO, was able to get a nice deal on it from a local shop. Showed it was ranked just below the PRO but quite a bit over the standard 840 series.
