fresh install of xp now explorer crashes

I just did a fresh install of XP and loaded video and sound drivers but when I try to open explorer to update it it fails.It starts loading then errors out.

I would do some memory(memory errors can do all kinds of things) and cpu tests to ensure you do not have other issues causing this issue.

Memtest86+ can be run off a CD/DVD/USB

Prime95 can give the cpu a good work out, but please make sure the heatsink is clean as things will get HOT.
