Question Fresh Win10 install not bootable (MBR/BIOS)

Hi everyone,

I tried to install Win10 on my brand new SSD, to replace my current one dating from 2012 (Crucial M4 500GB). I already have Win10 (1803) on this SSD but I wanted a fresh install on my new one (Crucial MX500 1TB) and install the new 22H2. My MB is an ASRock P55 Extreme4 from 2009.

So that you understand, here are all the steps I made:
  • I created a bootable USB with Rufus using official Win10 iso from Media Creation Tool, using MBR as Partition sScheme and BIOS as Target System.
  • I replaced my current SSD with the new one (so there is only one HDD/SSD connected, the new one) on my SATA3 6Gb/s MB port.
  • I booted on the USB key and installed Windows.
  • After installation, it restarted but the SSD is not bootable: "Reboot and select proper boot device...". The SSD is recognized by the BIOS btw if you're wondering.
  • The only way to make it boot, is to let the USB key in and it boot or to connect, additionally and boot, on a HDD that has a dual boot (windows + ubuntu) and I can select Windows in the Boot Manager and it boot.
My motherboard only supports BIOS boot not UEFI, it's too old. At least, there not a single référence to UEFI in the BIOS Menu. Only IDE/AHCI configuration choice for SSD/HDD SATA3 ports. I checked that my working old SSD is indeed booting from legacy boot and it's the case: msinfo32 says "Legacy" in the field "BIOS Mode". I checked the partition and it's indeed MBR (with diskpart). I'm out of ideas I'm tired I admit. I tried bootrec /fixmbr etc. it didn't worked.
If you're wondering, the new SSD with new Win10 installed has a MBR partition scheme I checked.

Thanks in advance for your help. (Sorry for bad english, it's not my mother tongue)
