I just built my first computer! Everything seemed to be fine at first but it moves very slowly. Pretty much any action by windows takes a long time. It took 10 minutes to shut down. It took 15 to search for a new driver. Also when I tried to bridge the connection between it and my laptop the internet just stopped working on it.

I am considering reinstalling windows but I was hoping to get some advice or help before I do. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Solution

Try going in bios and resetting to default, should be a key that does it for you. Go to your mobo manufacturers website and download all the up to date drivers.

AMD FX 8320
1 TB 7200 Barracuda HDD
Gigabyte 970-DS3P Motherboard
2x4 8gb Ram
600 watt power supply.

I put the MB disc in and installed some things and I had a friend helping me since I am so new to this so I just did what he was telling me. The MB was the only thing that had a disc with it though so I don't know what other drivers I needed to install. If there is anymore info you need just let me know and I will add it.

Not in the graphics card because it is temporary. It was only meant to be in for a few days until my new one showed up.

EVGA 600b 80+

My friend did. I don't know what all he did though. What setting need to be changed?

If your friend messed with overclock or other settings then it could be making the cpu run like complete crap.

Consult your motherboard and perfrom the steps to do a BIOS (also called CMOS) reset.
If that does nothing to fix your problem then I would reinstall windows.

One last question, does windows show you having the correct processor and correct amount of ram?

I know he didn't overclock it. He wouldnt have done something like that without asking me. It does. I checked it last night.

Will the drivers only be for the MB or will it have drivers for other hardware? Like my ethernet port and stuff?

Edit: I am looking at the site now on my work computer. I think I have most of these but I will try and update them tonight when I get off work. Then I will let you know what happened. Thanks for the tip.

It should have any drivers related to your motherboard.

I reinstalled windows and everything started working except the audio but that started working when I updated the drivers for my GPU. Thanks for the advice, everyone.
