Today I was playing Counter Strike, nothing too stressful, on my newly built pc (about a month old). In the middle of a match I heard a pop and my screen went black. The peripherals, fans, and lights were all still working. I unplugged my computer, plugged it back in, and turned it on. I heard another pop and this time a small flame came out of the top of my graphics card (Sapphire Nitro+ RX 580 8GB GDDR5).
I shut everything off and took out my card and took off the back plate. I saw that the pins that come from the six pin connector, it also has an eight pin, had either arced or came into contact with the back plate. I dont think the pins came into contact with the back plate as it seems too far away.
With the card still out, I plugged my monitor into the hdmi port on my motherboard so I can still use it. However, all I get is a black screen. All the peripherals, fans, and lights come on, but all I get is a black screen like I said. Does anyone know what could have caused this? Has anyone seen anyting like this? What can I do to fix my black screen issue with the mobo hdmi port? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
