I saw smoke coming from under the heatsink on my motherboard, an Asrock X99 Extreme6, and it didnt turn on anymore. I bought an X99 Extreme4 for cheap to replace it with but my pc didn't turn on with that either. I'm guessing CPU and/or RAM is broken too so I'm going to return the MoBO and upgrade MoBo+CPU+RAM instead.

1)When I try to boot with the X99 Extreme4 the lights are on and the fans spin for about a second. Is this possible with a broken CPU and RAM or does one of them still work?

2)I still have warranty on the CPU and RAM so I should be able to get those repaired/replaced and be able to sell them right?

3)Any reason to get another motherboard and RAM than the ones I picked? MoBO was one of the cheaper ones and the RAM seemed to have the best frequency and CAS latency.

Here is what I have already and what I am planning to buy:

Yeah I hate to say it, You got that bug that happened for awhile with X99 that fried the board and CPU, Im sure the RAM is fine.

Thats why its important to update your bios every so often, that bug was addressed via bios update even though the manufactures don't like to admit that it was a bug.

Not sure if you can get them replaced, its best to contact Intel first.
