So i pluged a DC power for my speakers into my monitor. The monitor runs on AC, SHITE! Long story short a smell of burning plastic and not turning on tells me that it’s broken. Howver it’s a nice monitor (1080p 24” dell one) so I was wondering if it was just the power delivery which was fried or if the whole screen was a bust. So is it repairable for a reasonable amount.

THANKS

Solution
Go to the dell web site and try to find the maintenance documentation for the monitor.
It will tell you how to take it apart.
These things all have plug in replacement components.
If you can identify the faulty one by the looks or smell, then you might be able to buy a replacement part on ebay.
Contact dell customer support.
Likely they would want you to send it to a repair center.
There, they would evaluate what it will cost to repair it.

Considering the cost of shipping a monitor, I would consider it a loss.
Look up the cost of a replacement on ebay.
Find your monitor in used condition and filter on completed auctions.
In green, you will see what they actually sell for.

I would cost a bit to even have it looked at by a repair shop etc.

Not really worth it unless it was a high end Monitor, like a $1,000 Monitor.

Just went through it with a fried 52" TV.

Got a new 4K Samsung 55" Smart TV cheaper than it would have cost me to fix the old one.

Ya if u got the time and patience and know your way with soldering go ahead open it up and check if anything burnt, u may even able to buy a used PSU from eBay. People who would do this for money calculate it's not worth whatever your are willing to pay them.

Anything can be fixed, but if by the time you are done, you are buying 90% of the parts needed for it at 150% the price of the original... does it even make sense? This is the nature of disposable electronics of this day and age. Sorry, but once that smoke comes out, there is usually no easy or cheap fix.
