For whatever reason my friend has convinced herself that she needs Dell-branded RAM to put in her Dell-branded computer or else the computer will throw a fit. The computer is an Optiplex, I'm unsure of the model or other specs, but she needs DDR3 RAM.

How can I convince her undeniably that any DDR3 will work?

Well, to "undeniably" convince her, the easiest thing to do would be to install a stick of non-Dell RAM and boot it up for her to see. Of course, that's assuming she'll allow you to do that.

Do you know what she's trying to accomplish? Is she replacing all the RAM in the system, or is she adding to the existing RAM? If she's adding to the stick(s) already installed, then it makes sense for her to be looking for identical sticks, if replacing all of them is not an option.

She's currently putting together a "new" system inside an existing Dell case using the Dell board and matching Intel CPU. It was business surplus but they didn't include RAM or a GPU.

I showed her my brother's PC, which is a Dell XPS 8300 with all the stock RAM removed and replaced with Crucial Ballistix Sport at a higher speed than the stock RAM but she simply refuses to accept it.

There are better options.
