Question Friends Graphics Card odd behaviour 170% TDP, any advice?

Hey,

a friend of mine has some issues, and as he has come to a dead end with fixing things, so maybe you can help me.

He has a 2070 super in his PC. Everything was fine and he played deathloop

Suddenly his FPS dropped to 20? and in every other game it was the same.

I investigated a little bit and found out when using furmark that initally the Card works fine, but then suddenly the TDP shoots up to like 170% or 400 WATTS???

When the card suddenly beginns to throttle to a core clock of 300MHz.

This sounds very unsafe to me

We already reinstalled Drivers with DDU and Windows doesn't have fast startup enabled or anything like that.

MSI Afterburner Powerlimiter doesn't help either.

After like 2 Minutes the Card Powers up again and delivers 250FPS in Furmark just for it to go down to 30FPS again after like 20 Seconds.

The Temperatures seem fine to me though? I don't really know how high they are supposed to be, but the fans have some headroom and even when constantly keeping them at 100% forced with Afterburner the same thing just happens.

It's just very odd to me and I am at a loss for words

Any help would be appreciated.

try the card in a different system, it´s eventually a defective component on the card.

which power supply model is your friend using?

Its a be quiet.
I tried the card in a different system, an old one of mine. Card had some hiccups at first (stayed at 300mhz for like a minute) but then it started to behave normally again, for over 20 minutes straight.
Back into the other PC the card is drawing 170% tdp once again, I guess it's the PSUs fault.
