Friends hard drive plays files on blu ray player but when plugged into computer, shows nothing

I went to my friends house and his seagate 4TB external hard drive AND his seagate personal cloud play files when the two drives are accessed from a samsung blu ray player. When the drives are plugged into a computer, nothing shows up... does anyone know how my friend might have done this?

I'd have to know more about the specific setup to give any definitive answer. However, I'd guess that his BluRay player has a sort of DVR function allowing for recordings to be made. Many DVRs encrypt the data so as to not facilitate piracy and easy internet sharing of recordings.
