It's his first one his budget is 400 but I do think hes willing to push for a little higher and case wise it doesnt really matter I guess whatever has the best airflow

Ok there are some options if your friend doesn't want to go past that 400$ mark then don't buy the GPU and the integrated graphics that CPU have is better then the GTX1050, if he wants to buy the GPU then the build will cost 500$ and he will have a much better experience.

Take note that I didn't include an HDD because I chose a 500GB SSD, you can buy an HDD for less then 50$ for 1TB here:https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-BarraCuda-Internal-3-5-Inch-ST1000DM010/dp/B01LNJBA2I/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&qid=1546502926&sr=8-3&keywords=seagate+1tb&linkCode=ll1&tag=xm3a06-20&linkId=84943e90e174a806395b716921ddb18c

And one more thing the case I chose has good airflow but you will be needing to buy fans for that this Corsair ML120: https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Premium-Magnetic-Levitation-2-Pack/dp/B01G5I6MRK/ref=as_li_ss_tl?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1546502999&sr=1-10&keywords=case+fans&linkCode=ll1&tag=xm3a06-20&linkId=d3ddbedf32e0dadef4e7fb6ca8a2caa5 they are really good fans and very quiet as well.
