Frist time build- audio/video editing

Hey guys. This build will be for Audio/Video editing. Nothing too hardcore. Just recording via firewire, and some video work in Sony Vegas. This will not be a dedicated system. So, basically I would just like to know if everything is compatible and if there are any comments,suggestions, or problems with installing any of the parts in particular. I do not plan on overclocking right off the bat. But i would like to eventually explore overlocking my Q6600 to 3ghz on air. My main fear with my first build is mostly configuring the bios/ bios updates and installing windows correctly. And with my luck, i know everything wont go flawlessly, so im very hesitant to spend the cash. Thanks for any input.

The main thing i will suggest is getting a HD3850 instead of the 8600... i know i know your doing video editing... but im sure at some stage you will do a small amount of gaming and the 3850 series is actually really good for video editing also whereas the 8800 series arent (most of them) and the 8600 wont play games on that res real well at all.

I too would switch the video card to a ATI 3850. I would also switch the motherboard from a X38 to a P35 chipset (which will save you about $100). The X38 chipset is not worth the extra money.

Go with the Asus maximus formula board. It allows you to overclock your cpu by cpu step up in bios. It'll show you your q6600, and give you the options to set it to q6700 q6800 q6850 or crazy. Crazy will oc you to 3.5. If you dont want to play with the bios this one click solution is for you.

Thanks for the input guys, i will check out the ATI 3850. Others have also reccomended not going with an x38 board. Im not the most knowledgable, but i dont see why, in the computer industry, why i wouldn't go with whats new. I want it to be future proof as well. Ive read about the Maximus board, and from what i remember its pretty expensive. Sounds really easy to OC, something i will look into.

The maximus isn't much more then the board you picked out. Ya $259 is alot for a mobo, but it is a good one and great for overclocking.
