[SOLVED] From 1050ti to 1070

Hey! I have a Asus aspire gx 781 (old af I know but I don't do gaming that often). Is it possible to upgrade from a 1050ti to 1070? I Know it depends on the motherboard and power supply but I have no idea how to check these things. Also I kinda figured I can replace the i5 7400 with a i7 7700 since they have the same socket type but kinda need confirmation on that also

I think you mean an acer aspire…

a gtx 1070 would need an 8 pin pcie connector and a minimum 500w psu. You must first confirm if the psu has one, and meets the minimum wattage.

Also along with upgrading cpu upgrade to 16gb of ram. That will help too. I guess research to see if that system was offered with the 7700. Like the other guy said check the power supply, you may need to look at getting a better one. But the 1070 will be a nice pick me up from the 1050ti.

And note that checking the PSU will almost certainly require you to open the PC and physically look at it. There's no real shortcut here since it's a PSU you didn't buy and install.

Thanks for the answers! Will definitely open it up and see what kinda psu it has. Yeah it was offered with the 7700 and afaik it should go right in. Ram was the other thing also that I seriously need to upgrade

Also, if you don’t have an ssd, one for the boot drive would be great. An ssd makes systems feel like new in my opinion. A 240gb should only be 35-40 bucks. But I recently got a 1tb from Amazon for 79.99.
