From gtx 660 to gtx 970...Different connectors?

I see the gtx 970 has more connectors then the gtx 660. But is that optional or will it be powered by desame connector as the gtx 660?
If i need to use both i guess i have to get a different PSU lol.

your 660 should've used 2 6 pin connectors the 970 will use a single 8 pin. So if you have a 6+2 connector you can use that.

your PSU should have enough power if it came with 2 6 pins, if you want you can pick up one of these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812200420&cm_re=6_to_8_pin_power_adapter-_-12-200-420-_-Product if you don't have a pci-e 8 pin cable.

2 6pins? Only 6 pins in total on my 660. Here is a picture. It has a not connected cable with 2 pins though. Will this be enough to power the 970?

yes that will work its a 6+2 pin which gives you an 8 pin connector.


I was not sure what card you had and the first 660 I pulled up had 2 6 pin connectors on it.

I have read now that it needs all ports powered up. This can be done with a molex to video 6-pin slot cable. The stopis part is that msi does not supply this cable and it is included with the gigabyte version.
I decided to go with the asus. While it has the worst performance i dont have to fiddle with adapters and it fits better

The asus only requires the 8-pin cable. Not 6+8.
