Anyone else get that new MX 1000 Laser mouse yet I posted about a few weeks ago ?

Anyhow I found a very interesting BIOS option that completely removes many of the graphics clitches and itty bitty mouse curser freezes some of you might have been experiencing in high end games like HL2 or any other damn game.

Since I upgraded my CPU it unlocked 2 options previously greyed out in my MoB BIOS options.

FSB Spectrum Control and AGP Spectrum control.

I have noticed these two setting in many systems I have built as both a tech and for friends. They seem just fine set to DEFAULT and I never bothered with them much.

Today I started playing around tweaking BIOS Options increasing FSB speeds by tweaking memory and CPU MHz settings. Anyhow along the way I set these two settings to these NEW values.

FSB Spread Spectrum to 1.00%
AGP Spread Spectrum to 50%

Both previously locked and set to Default.

Well let me tell you if your Motherboard supports those two BIOS options I highly recommend setting them to those 2 setting values.

I mean any mouse latency in big graphics games is gone totally I mean GONE!! none existent!! Completely overrides FPS as an issue and your mouse drives even if your FPS for whatever reason drop a little.

Basically what the Spread Spectrum control does is very slightly modifies your MoB frequency's NOT the BUSS rate or CPU frequency it rotates the frequency that those set frequency's operate at to prevent your system from running only ONE SET frequency.

In theory it prevents the system from have mini system hangs do to overflow.

In reality it makes your P.C task faster and run like its on greased rails.

Try it you will like it. I like it allot!!

The Laser mouse by default was a little heavy and my hand has learned to control it very well back to top notch game play were I again dominate everything that moves or breaths online and those two settings now set are letting me explore a new level of game play that 90% of players will never see or dream about. STOCK no cheats lads get in the game don't let the game get into you.

Well hackers always ran away from me online anyways they are afraid of me. There is a reason....I keep my [-peep-] clean and my P.C tweaked to the 9's

I was not having problems with the GD laser mouse
because that Mouse is on my computer.

I did find those two settings tweaked to add horsepower to the Systems in both my and the wife's computer.

In fact with default RAM settings matching CPU speed of 200 MHz and memory set to 200 MHz equalling a 400 MHz BUS on the wife's XP 3200+ SETTING those two settings in the BIOS set-up actually tweaked the BUS from 400 MHz to 400.9 MHz according to CPU-Z and other diagnostics tools.

Overall system performance is evident in HL2 and Day Of Defeat online in both computers. In fact her optical mouse seems to be disconnected from the Frames Per Second Issue and even as I said previously if your FPS drops for some reason due to extreme combat situations with explosions and lots of player activity the crosshair/mouse curser is not effected and you can still track targets with ease.

3DMark /03 also shows a dramatic improvement in score in the CPU tests, as well as some small points awarded to the graphics chip-set on her machine that she could not score before.

I just downloaded the HL2 demo.. Sorry not my type of game reminded me of doom3. played 1/2 hr.. found it sucked. It did suck. What's high about the game, except that it stinks?

The loving are the daring!

High end in the form of software design and the amount of stress it exhibits on a desktop P.C.

The demo is released free for a reason what are you bitching at me about it for lol. If your not an RPG player that likes solving puzzles and using clues and resources to achieve and end result then don't play them.

You could go back to Space Invaders at least your brain could handle that and your P.C might be able to as well.

It helped the mouse curser on both machines what more can I say it was not even expected it simply did.

It is on your CPU!! I got a friend in Texas that ran Defaults had to replace his CPU last week my wife's XP 2800+ got an upgrade to an XP3200+ because it was slowing down and 1 of my 80 Gig SATA hard drives packed it in over a week ago and I had to replace it.

The wife is on her third optical mouse and I would have been on my 4th accept I got the MX1000 Laser mouse instead.

My nephew had a brand new system just about a year ago and I had to replace his CPU and graphics card. My New graphics card seems to have a minor DX9 clitch in it and the Wife's card also seems to have the same type of problem. All that in the last year or less. Hardly an acceptable maintenance record.

Steam is eating up hardware!! Or the hackers are through the Steam network. Old ball mice you could do small flash firmware updates on them to improve the MHz frequency in them and I know in an old DOS based game called Battlezone we all played for 10 plus years that was a favourite hack attack to fry a guys Mouse.

Who knows but lots of hardware issues on 4 computers I know that directly access Steam online to play CS, DoD and HL2. As a harmless example the Admin on one server started opening and closing CD trays. Not a big deal under normal circumstances but even some of his own clan members were yelling at him to stop because they had Computer case doors closed and the drive drawers were not able to open properly and caused some damage I am sure to the gears and in them. Nothing online amazes me it has not for many years, I have seen to much and learned more online then I did in school for computers. Stuff many newer players wont ever see or experience because of the evolution away from the older DOS based games yet they all learn soon enough anything is possible as far as hacking software and hardware goes.
