from small ssd to bigger ssd

I have two discs on my PC.One ssd with windows 10 and a few programs and one HD (sata2) with data.
Now I would like to install a bigger ssd instead of the smaller one.
Can I connect the new one on the other sata3_1 connector and then clone the small ssd to the big one ? Will my PC see the new one ?
And then after the clone process can I put the big one on the sata3_0 connector and will it then become the C ?

Hi there Marcello.

Yup, the way you're planning on doing everything sounds fine to me. You might not need to change SATA ports afterwards. If you boot to Windows while having both SSD's connected the C: drive would be whichever drive you've used to boot to Windows.
So basically you should make sure that you've set the new SSD as the first booting option from the BIOS/UEFI settings (look for the boot priority menu).

You likely won't have to change settings in the BIOS.
What are you planning to use to clone? I like Macrium Reflect, it seems to have worked for me consistently and it is free.

Well, you could do that if you wish, but if the BIOS/UEFI does not pick up the new drive you're using right away for some reason, just make sure that you give it a try with the boot priority menu. If you don't know how to find it, there should be instructions about that in the mobo's user manual.

I think I will use the software of samsung ssd 850 or I also have AOMEI Backupper installed. I will take a look at macrium Reflect as well.
But the PC has to pick up the new drive or I will not be able to clone , right ?

Yup it will pick it up. I guess I didn't phrase it properly, sorry about that. I mean if it doesn't detect it as the first booting option after the clone. The drive should be detected in general, by the BIOS/UEFI if you're to be able to clone it.

Either of those may work perfectly. However, I have had AOMEI Backupper fail on me before, it might have been when I was going from larger HDD to smaller SSD, but Macrium Reflect handled it fine. Since you are going smaller to larger, it will probably be fine to use either one. I'd like to know how well Samsung one works though since I rend to buy Samsung SSD's.

Hi guys ,

good news got the ssd today .
I cloned the existing ssd with the data migration software from samsung : 16 minutes
installed the new ssd in my PC : 15 minutes ( i have two left hands )
rebooted and everyhting worked fine !
And the benchmark is amazing !
