[SOLVED] Front Audio Jack working only in a certain position

Hi,

I have a new desktop, 1 month old.

Yesterday, front audio jack stopped working properly. Any headphones/earplugs work fine with other devices, but with the desktop front audio jack, only one ear works. The tricky thing is, that if I wiggle it a bit and leave the headphones not fully inserted, it works properly in both ears...

  • I tried to clean the jack with an earbud, not sure how succesfully
  • software issue ruled out - I checked everything, balance for all audio devices is set up 100 percent
  • I opened the case, checked and reconnected wires to front jack, to no change
Any advices?

Thanks!

Jan

Pay extra attention to the 2nd part of Ralston's response.
I suspect you have a TRRS connector on the headset, and tje front port on your PC is looking for a TRS. If that's the type of connection your headset does indeed have, you'll need an adapter to make it TRS
