Front audio mic jack not working...

Hello! I'm trying to use my earbuds as a mic ( I know for a fact that the mic works ). When i plug it into the front mic jack, my audio manager recognizes it and tells me it's a microphone, but it flat out doesn't work.I guess the jack does work, in recognizing my earbuds, but for some reason nothing works. I made sure it's not muted, set it as default communications device, etc... Any help?

Check the mixer's sliders, maybe the mic slider is all the way down.

Is this a laptop or a desktop? You are providing the barest of information.
