Hey guys I have windows7 and when I go to my sound card options the headphones option always says that there is no device even though I have my headphones pluged into the front 3.5mm green jack that is listed in headphones. Any ideas?
P.S. I tried updating drivers.

Your mobo's manual will have a guide as to where to plug everything in. Plugging them...

I did put it together myself. I even have a few cords loose from the case haha so they are probably the problem. For the most part I did a good job, I got everything to fit and work nicely. The wires left over are labeled HD audio (my brother in law said you needed a sound card for that, I personally don't know) then there is the restart button (I plugged this into every available spot on my mobo and it never worked but honestly I would never use it even if I could so I don't care about it). As for the HD audio wire I really don't think there are any places I can put it. I looked for a very long time and couldn't find the correct spot for it.

Right mine shows up as headphone but even though they are plugged into that slot it says "Not plugged in"

Your mobo's manual will have a guide as to where to plug everything in. Plugging them into the wrong places might cause some damage. And the HD audio wires are why your headphones don't work, they run from the mobo to the headphone jack on the front of your case.

Ok I found it.
Now that I have it working the audio sounds great through it however I can hear this light highpitch sound.
It almost sounds like I can hear the mobo operating lightly in the background.

Standard issue with onboard sound for the most part.
