Front I/O causing computer to freeze

I am having a issue with a new build that is really frustrating. Anytime I plug in something to the front I/O Pannels (headphones, USB 3, USB 2) there is a chance my computer will freeze. I have read this is most likely a grounding issue and I tried to run a wire from one of the front panel I/O boards to a metal screw on the case, but I am still seeing an issue. I have also tried to make sure I am touching the back of the case when I plug something in and I still have the issue (though not quite as often it seems).

I have never seen this issue when plugging things into the back i/o on the motherboard. This also happens whether I am in the bios or in windows. I have tried isolating the front panel headers and seeing if one of them is the cause but it still happens no matter which combination of headers I have plugged in. I have made sure to replug in all the front I/O headers to make sure everything was seated properly.

I have updated the bios version, I have made sure all drivers are up to date (downloaded all of them from mobo's website right before I finished the build). Nothing seems to work. I made sure all the case spacers for the mobo were aligned with the holes and there weren't any extra. I made sure all the screws for the mobo were secure.

If plugging something into the front I/O doesn't cause it to freeze, the things I plug in seem to work ok without any issues.

Any suggestions on how to go about fixing this? Do I have to just live without my front I/O panel? That would be quite disappointing considering its a brand new build.

One thing I did notice was the rear I/O plate does not appear to be exactly lined up with the mobo input. I don't have any issues plugging anything into them but could this be causing a short or grounding issue?

Everything else appears to be function properly with no other issues that I have noticed.

Thanks in advance!

I have that issue on some builds too. It usually only happens in the winter when the in-house air is dry. It appears to be a static electricity issue (ESD) and happens on some builds more than others. The only solution I've found is to touch a case screw that is unpainted, and (in the case of a USB stick) touch its metal housing to a grounded portion of the case as well.
If that fails, it may be that the device you are plugging in has gotten a static build-up charge from the time you last used it. Also, be sure your wall outlet is properly grounded. Are your outlets 120V (US) or 240V (EU)?

I am in the US so 120V.

I believe the wall outlet is ok, as I have had a different computer plugged into the same outlet and same power strip for 2+ years without any issue. I do have an outlet tester so I will double check that just to be sure.
