Dear all,

I have a Gigabyte G1.Sniper M5 and am attempting to set up 5.1 sound with the onboard Creative SB Recon 3Di chip. I have a pair of Roccat Kave 5.1 headphones attached to the correct analogue jacks on the motherboard.

When I set the sound profile to headphones in the Sound Blaster Pro software, my headset plays sounds as expected through the front left and right channels only.
When I switch to 5.1 surround, all channels EXCEPT the front left and front right play. With the headphone control sliders, putting everything to 0 except 'Front' (meaning front L/R), gives me no sound at all - ie the other channels are all playing but front left and right isn't.
When I do this same thing with stereo rather than 5.1 surround, the front speakers are working fine - it's not that the headset is plugged in incorrectly or not working.

When I try reinstalling the sound card drivers, I can get about 0.5 seconds of sound from the front left when I try to test the surround sound mode before the sound cuts out, and only the centre/sub/rear speakers work after that. This is repeatable upon uninstallation and reinstallation of the drivers.

Can anyone help me sort out what's going on? Thanks in advance for your help!!

Stage 1: read the manual.

Check

Stage 2: Re-read the manual AGAIN.

Ch.... oh.

You have to put the front left/right speaker connection into the LINE OUT socket on this motherboard.

Of course!.

Oh well, my bad, solution found and posted.
