I’m currently moving my motherboard and everything into a new case. This is my first time doing anything with PC builds etc . So far I’ve gotten everything plugged in correctly and what not but the front panel connectors from my old pc case is different from the new one.
The new case has these connectors that say “ HDD LED + “ “ RESET SW QS “ you get the picture.

Now what my problem is is that I don’t know what order I’m supposed to plug them into the motherboard in. The area where I plug them in only has 9pins and all the examples people give they have 10 or more.

I was just wondering if anyone could help me figure this out. I’ll be happy to provide more information if needed.

If you have the motherboard manual, the manual should tell you where to plug these into.

If not, maybe lookup your motherboard online and try to find a manual. Also, how old is your motherboard? And do you know if it uses preparatory connectors? These are signs that the motherboard does not have the right pins.

There should be some pins on the bottom-right of the motherboard where you can plug these into, just make sure they are plugged into the right pins.

Your new case may have some additional pins on the front panel connector. But the power button, reset button, hard drive indicator LED, and the power indicator LED are the main ones to get plugged in. The case speaker is also there as well if you have one.

The pinout of the connector plus the instructions should be in your manual.

What is the specific make and model of the PC?
