We have Dell Inspiron, Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit.

A piece on the front of the case itself broke. We took everything out of the case, MOBO, Hard Drive, CPU, RAM, DVD, Card Reader and put in another Dell Inspiron case. The only thing in the case we moved to that is original parts is the power supply and the front panel connectors.

Now we have an error on boot:

"Alert! Front Panel not detected, press F1 to continue, F2 for Setup"

It appears to be a false error. As we have tested all front panel ports and they are working properly.

We have removed CMOS to reset BIOS settings. We have re-seated front panel cable.

Any ideas on how to get the error off the machine. We are preparing to sell it and thought it best to not have a boot error.

Does the case you transplanted into have the exact same setup? Sometimes the inclusion (or forgoing) of a card reader etc can trigger it (as the 'full' front panel I/O as configured from the factory is not detected).

There may be an option to disable in the BIOS, but most Dell's are pretty locked down.

The case we transplanted into has the exact setup. The old case and the new case does have a card reader. There were no additions, or exclusions regarding hardware. It's strange. We've been in BIOS. Been at it several hours.

We've seen similar post where folks actually lost audio. For us, no worries with looking for a particular fix, as all is working. Would like to get rid of boot error, if possible.

If anyone has any other thoughts or suggestions, we would appreciate it. We realize we may just be stuck, just know it helps to put the question out for others to give feedback.

Many thanks.

We got it! Went back to the old/original case and found a ground wire in the wiring harness connected to the power button. Removed ground wire from the old case wiring harness and put it in the new case wiring harness. No more error message! Hooray!
