Hi,
Sorry if this is the wrong place to put this, I’m pretty new to tomshardware.

Right, so I went and bought a new case for my decently aged PC. Now I have an issue where there’s this huge cable connected to the USB 3.0 on the front panel of the case with 24 pins on it; so huge in fact that I don’t have enough pins on my USB headers to completely connect the thing. Do I have to buy a new motherboard with more pins on it’s USB headers, or can I get away with just connecting a few (2/3 of the entire cable’s connectors?)

Here’s a link to the case’s specifications.

I would supply an image of the cable, but I’m not really sure how.

Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help!

I think your motherboard's USB (internal)ports are limited to USB2.0 we can confirm if we knew of it's make and model. The case has the 20pin USB3.0 cable, yeah but we'll need to know if you're mistaking the USB header for something else or if the cable is meant to go somewhere else.

If you'd like to post a pic, upload the image on imgur and then paste the link to the image here, we'll take a look at it!

Thanks for the reply.
I did some looking, and found that there are some adapters for USB 3.0 to 2.0 headers. I’ll try one of those out and see how it goes.

(this part is mostly for people reading this in the future.)
Here is an image of the cable that comes directly from the front panel: https://i.imgur.com/DY1bcR5.jpg

Also, to my knowledge, the motherboard is a Lenovo CIB85M.

I can also confirm that the slot I was attempting to place the USB 3 connector in was, in fact, a USB 2 header; considering it had, in pretty big text below it, the words “USB 2.0” under the header.

Again, thanks for your reply!
