Frozen at Post. How Can I Stop Microsoft From Installing Wrong Software at Startup and Crashing My System?

I downloaded software from Microsoft that needed to be installed completely during boot. My system doesn't like the software and I am redirected to startup repair right after the files are installed. Startup repair tells me: "Startup repair has tried several times but still cannot determine the cause of the problem", with the error codes 0x0. I have tried everything in repair, cmd, safe mode etc, etc. nothing works. How can I start my computer without this darn program running? I have asked everywhere. If you know the answer I am forever grateful and you are a mad genius!

Only a factory restore or a full Windows re-install can get you out of that. Then go straight to Control Panel and disable automatic updates. I never let automatic updates run on any of my windows installations, whether the installation is for me or a friend. However, it's essential to have strong & reliable online security in place when you do this.

Thank you so much for an answer. You are the only person that has responded in all of my 5 forum posts. I did have a backup on a partition but recovery is telling me there isn't one. Do you know of a way I can access this partition from the place I'm stuck at (I have access to cmd prompt) without using recovery to verify that it is gone, or find if it is there and recovery isn't finding it after I restructured the partition? Thanks again!

You can't verify the presence or absence of the recovery partition from a command prompt since that partition has no drive letter when it leaves the factory. This is so it can't be seen in Windows or via a command prompt and therefore nothing can be accidentally or mistakenly deleted from it.

However, if you have "restructured" the partitions on the hard drive using a partition manager utility, you may have destroyed the recovery data. To find out what partitions are present on the drive (all partitions, including hidden ones and those without a drive letter) you can boot your computer from the free MiniTool® Partition Wizard Bootable CD:

If that doesn't show you a partition named "Recovery" or something similar, it definitely doesn't exist.
